What Goes On In A Group?

What Goes On In A Group?

A variety of different things!

Relax into Change group sessions run weekly and last an hour and a half. For at least thiry minutes of that time, you will be guided into a deeply relaxed state. You will experience many different ways of achieving this, including simple, practical techniques you will learn and be able to use on your own whenever you need to. Everyone is different, so you can simply adopt those methods that work best for you. Relaxation techniques like these can be especially helpful if you suffer from anxiety, panic attacks, tension headaches, or have problems sleeping well.

Regular deep relaxation is also beneficial in itself. With practice, your body and mind will remember how to relax deeply, a state from which is becomes much easier to untangle our emotions from whatever aspect of our current life circumstances is troubling us. This means we can see things more clearly, and so make better decisions and then take positive action that will really help us make the changes we want to make. This is true for all of us all the time. It can be so much easier to let go of harmful habits associated with food, alcohol and tobacco, for instance, when we can separate them from the emotional needs they have become confused with.

Each session also involves activities and discussion around relevant themes, some general, some tailored to the particular interests of a group. These will include:

* Activities to help you identify sources of stress, assess how balanced your life is, identify the changes you want to make and how to make them happen, assess progress.
* Information and discussion to promote understanding of what actually happens in your body and mind when you are stressed, anxious or depressed.
* Exploration of thinking and behavioural habits that can make stress, anxiety, depression, and harmful habits hard to move on from - and how to cultivate helpful ways of thinking and behaving instead.
* Learning how to use your imagination to help you feel better (rather than letting it use you to make you feel worse!).
* Feedback discussions in which you can let me know what is, and what isn't, working for you, so that I can always work to the needs of your group.
